How it works

Three steps. No setup.

If you use iMessage on your Mac, your messages are already stored locally. iExporter reads that database directly.

2

Select conversations

Browse all your iMessage, SMS, and MMS threads. Search by contact name. Select one or many.

3

Export

Choose HTML, CSV, or plain text. Your messages are saved to your Mac instantly, with all timestamps and attachments.

FAQ

Common questions

No. Unlike tools that require a USB connection and a full device backup, iExporter works through iCloud sync. If your iPhone and Mac are signed into the same Apple ID with Messages in iCloud enabled, your texts are already on your Mac and ready to export. No cables, no iTunes, no Finder sync needed.
On your iPhone, go to Settings > [your name] > iCloud > Messages and toggle it on. On your Mac, open Messages > Settings > iMessage and check "Enable Messages in iCloud." Once enabled, your conversations sync automatically. Large histories can take a few hours to fully sync.
As long as the messages synced to your Mac before the phone became unavailable, iExporter can access them. This is especially useful for preserving a deceased loved one's messages or accessing texts when the phone isn't available.
HTML is the most presentable. It shows conversations in a familiar chat layout with timestamps and sender identification that's easy for judges and juries to follow. CSV is ideal when attorneys need to search, filter, or sort across thousands of messages. Many legal professionals export in both formats. Admissibility depends on your jurisdiction, so consult your attorney about proper authentication.
Screenshots mean scrolling and capturing hundreds of times for long conversations. You end up with a pile of image files with no searchable text, no structured timestamps, and no way to sort or filter. Attorneys and courts increasingly prefer structured text exports over screenshots because they're searchable, sortable, and include complete metadata. iExporter does in seconds what would take hours of screenshotting.
No. iExporter opens the database in read-only mode. It cannot add, edit, or delete any messages. Your conversations remain exactly as they are.
Yes. Photos, videos, audio messages, and documents are copied into a subfolder within the ZIP archive. Check "Include Attachments" before exporting. Attachments are only included if they're still stored locally on your Mac (not offloaded to iCloud).
Free to download and browse your conversations. Exporting requires a subscription: $5.99/week (great for a one-time export), $14.99/month, or $39.99/year (best value). All plans include unlimited exports in all three formats. No ads, no feature gating, no per-device licensing.
macOS protects the Messages database behind a privacy permission called Full Disk Access. This is an Apple security feature, not something specific to iExporter. Granting it allows iExporter to read (not modify) your Messages database. You can revoke it anytime in System Settings.
macOS 13 Ventura or later. Runs natively on both Apple Silicon (M1/M2/M3/M4) and Intel Macs. No account or internet connection required.
